Farm Contracting
 & Home wanted

We are a young expanding family that wants to follow our dream of starting our own business.

We are able to offer casual or longer term farm contracting, especially in the area of stock work (mustering/drenching/dagging etc) along with general farm duties (fencing etc) within the sheep and beef industry.

In order to do this and be able to offer these services, we are looking for a home to rent with lease land around it in the Wairarapa area.  Ideally 10 hectares plus, but at the moment, any size considered.

Please email smit24kids@gmail.com if you are able to help.

While the kids were up with the birds, they have played reasonably happily for the last hour, I'm about to go and suss out breakfast.  But just wanted to share a verse that a friend shared with us which greatly encouraged us this week:

Ephesians 3
16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

He has the power ... looking forward to seeing how my God will supply this week!!

Taking a break

I'm sitting down ... still doing some 'jobs' on my list, but taking a bit of a break.  Have updated the 'family' blog (linky on side) if you want to nosy at photos.

Hope you're all having a happy Thursday ... off to bottle some more applesauce in about 15 minutes.

Cool Website

I'm usually typing in angst as I try to get my head around our situation in life right now ... BUT each day is given sufficient grace for itself, so as I am gifted with grace I am searching for new things to explore and try.

Ok - so maybe I won't be exploring this new thing anytime soon - but come one - has anyone else ever wanted to try skydiving?

When I get onto the internet in the morning I usually flick to the weather (very important with lots of washing in the winter ... BRRR at the moment) and scroll down the news page quickly.  Today at the very bottom of the newspage was a book review about a new recipe book called The Intolerant Gourmet and a link to the authors blog.

Since I have a wee man with gluten intolerance, I'm off to see if I can source it from our local library.  And in the meantime, I will explore the blog.  The apple loaf sounds like something we can even try today!!

Oh, and inspiration for last nights sewing project, an A-line skirt in black cord with bright pink top stitching and pink cotton feature pocket came from here ... fingers crossed it fits the birthday girl on Sunday.

Women I admire

I thought I would share a few links with you.  These are women of God who I have known (either virtually or in real life) and have impacted my life in some way ...

One pereson who has impacted me in a crafty manner, as well as an example of strength when dealing with challenges is Becs.  I figured out that I've known her for about five years now, 'meeting' online on a mother's to bed board.  Her youngest and my eldest are a day apart.  Becs has amazing talent as a re-creator of things (trying to think of the right word to use) check out her page here ....

Another strong lady in my life is Jess.  I have known Jess since I was at uni, although we haven't caught up in person for too long.  She is an amazing wife and Mama and I love the way she writes with honesty and vibrancy.  I admire the posts she does on wardrobe Wednesday because a) I haven't even figured out the self timer on my camera and b) I think it takes guts!!! Check her blog out here ....

Someone who lives local has been impacting my craftily for a long time.  I figured out from my school friends I still have constant contact with, this person has known me the longest ... I love how she takes the time to give me advice on all my little sewing/knitting/crafty bits and bobs (usually weird questions like, why doesn't my machine gather or how do I use 8ply instead of 10ply).  Check out 'what to make next' here ....

There are WAY more ladies in my life that have impacted me greatly than I could even write about, these three just happen to have their own blogs or sights - and I'm more sure quite how to write about the other amazing ladies without giving their privacy away.  There are the ones who are just there for me at the end of a phone ... the ones who are prayer warriors ... the amazing one who helps care for our kids a couple of days a week.  To these ladies and those I know online and in real life, thank you for being part of my life!!

Change of scene ...

I wanted to go onto the internet and do some googling for skirt patterns.  I have just completed a very rough skirt for Missy – I wanted to do one of those tiered skirts, where they are a bit fuller each tier, but I ended up pleating the tiers because I couldn’t figure out how to machine gather.  I think I’m going to attempt another one (once I get some more scrap material) but hand gather it.  People way back when didn’t have fancy machines to do things, so I’m sure there must be a way to do it by hand.  Unfortunately for me, Google can’t help because we’re nearly over our internet limit for the month – so I’m sitting here in Word typing about it … and will copy and paste tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

I have really enjoyed my sewing in the last couple of weeks.  I have completed (bar some ribbon and buttons) a winter jacket with lining for Missy.  I’m not sure at 2.5yrs she appreciates sewing, actually, she’s more paranoid about pins sticking into her (thank-you big brother for telling her that) BUT I am really enjoying it.  The jacket was made using a vintage size 2 pattern I picked up at an op-shop, along with the piece of woolen material.  I lined it with an old cotton floral sheet.  I will get pictures up once I’m done.  So far the only ‘new’ bits on it are the ribbon on the cuff/collar/pockets and I’m trying to source some buttons.  I can’t believe the price of them in the shop … on the lookout for button collections at op-shops now.

I have some black cord material, along with an emerald skirt and a maroon skirt that I will be chopping up for Missy as well.  The maroon skirt will be transformed into a pinafore with pink plaid lining.  The black cord I may attempt a pair of pants for the littlest boy – or a different style pinafore.  I love the pattern I used of her denim one – but I should branch out a little.  I think some appliqué on it will look quite funky.  I also have a huge bright pink dressing gown in some type of velour that will be chopped down for a ‘new’ dressing gown for Missy and hopefully a tunic dress.  I need to practise my arm and sleeve sewing, so that will be a good option.

Actually, speaking for cutting down and sewing up, I could go and start chopping the dressing gown now (I’m typing as I’m waiting for the DH to get off the phone) … nothing like taking advantage of the moment … pictures to come when I get a chance.  Although not of the tier skirt … that was just a play about.

Saturday morning ....

I didn't get around to doing the dressing gown ... off to pattern hunt now!!

Sunday Thoughts

It has been awhile since I've had the leading to write on a Sunday, and especially thoughts on that ... but this morning while I was preparing some writing sheets (dotted letters/words for the boys to write over) a verse struck me.

Proverbs 12:25  Anxiety in the heart of man caused depression, but a good word makes it glad.

To all those friends and acquaintances, both online and in-real-life, to the Christian Mummy bloggers that I read and follow THANK YOU for the good words that you have shared with me.  It is uplifting in the midst of a trial to hear a word of encouragement.  They can stir up, provokes and incite to positive direction.  And it doesn't even have to be encouragement or good words about the situation, it could have been a wee positive comment about what I'd been doing, or other life stuff that happens.  I guess the point is, you never know how much one little positive word can impact a person.
